Worlds of Possibility submissions stats for Spring 2024

The Spring 2024 poetry and fiction reading period for Worlds of Possibility closed a couple of days ago, and I thought you might like to see the submissions stats.

  • I received 1,037 submissions during this period.
  • I have rejected 30 submissions so far.
  • 17 have been withdrawn by the author. I hope that means they were accepted elsewhere! Go authors!
  • I have held onto 10 submissions for the second round. That currently looks like one in four stories is getting held, but I expect that percentage to drop significantly as I keep reading.
  • There are 980 unread submissions in the queue.
  • Of the ten currently held submissions, 5 are from previous Worlds of Possibility contributors, and 5 are from authors who have not yet appeared in Worlds of Possibility.
  • Of the ten currently held submissions, 9 are stories and 1 is poetry.
  • All 30 of the rejected submissions were stories. I know there is quite a bit more poetry waiting to be read, but I think the majority of subs are stories.
  • I have not yet accepted anything, and I suspect I won't until I finish reading the whole queue.

I am the sole reader at Worlds of Possibility, so rest assured that if you submitted, I am personally reading your submission. This is also why it can take a little time if I have other responsibilities to see to. Thanks to other big deadlines (like the SFWA mentorship program matches that were due in mid-March), I mostly didn't have time to read while the period was open. I'm making my way slowly through the queue, but I expect the vast majority of submissions will receive responses sometime in the month of April, especially since I am also currently working on getting the April issue together!

Speaking of which... I should really get back to that. I know several authors are waiting on their edits.

Until next time!
